GILLARK DESIGN AB
is the name of my company for consulting in architecture, town planning and regional development planning. The company was established in 1987. The office is located at the Alnö island just outside the city of Sundsvall.
Private and public clients
My clients are mainly local and regional authorities but also national organizations and private real estate owners. During the last years I have fulfilled commissions to the municipalities of Uppsala, Härnösand, Helsingborg, Leksand, Timrå , Umeå, Härjedalen, Berg and Ånge and to the County Administration Board of Västernorrland and Dalarna. Also the Swedish Transport Administration, The National Heritage Board and The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions are among my clients.
Planning and housing projects
The commissions have mainly been planning issues, from regional development plans to local building and urban development plans. The housing projects are private houses, recreation villages and public buildings. The last years I have participated as a Charrette- architect several times. Charrette is an intensive planning activity with representatives from the citizens, environmental organizations and different planning experts. In a few days soloutions on planning problems are developed and discussed in order to reach an agreement. Among regional development issuses I have been responsible for a EU-financed Mid-Nordic Interregional Development Strategy for the MidNordic regions in Norway, Sweden and Finland. When a new region was planned in northern Sweden, I was the leader for forming a strategy for innovation and business development.
I am born in 1949 and have grown up in Sundsvall. I took my architect exam at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm in 1973 and have been employed at K-Konsult in Östersund and Sundsvall, at Erik Vagn Christensen Architects in Timrå and at VBB in Sundsvall before I started my own business in 1987. I also have done some post graduate studies at Royal University College of Fine Arts (KKH) 1980-81 and in Spatial Development at Nordregio in Stockholm.
I also have been member of the board of the former Natioinal Association of Swedish Architects (SAR) and the regional board of Swedish Associatioin of Architects.
Throughout the years I have developed a planning method based on the character of the site and surroundings, landscape and its history. A house or a group of houses should be designed as a contribution to its context in order to enhance the character of the place, not as an example of the current trends in international architecture or to realize the artistic dreams of the architect.
